When you removed the old starter motor, was the nose broken on the starter? I've seen the end of the starter missing & jammed in the flywheel. Place a socket on the center of the harmonic balance & try turning the engine. If won't go one then try in opposite direction. Sometimes if something is jammed, either in the flywheel or the timing chain has broken, the engine may turn one way but not the other. If you can not turn in either direction, then remove all the spark plugs & check for coolant in the cylinders. Try turning the engine with the plugs removed. If the engine will not turn, then you will have to pull the engine. Lots of fun on Ford Vans. . . If the engine turns easily, then try it with the starter. If the starter doesn't work then you may have a faulty/misaligned starter or a relay problem.

Always gei a variety of answers for sure. No help just dumb answers. Let us start, what were the symptoms that made the truck quit runnibg, does engine crank when you try to start, that is turn over, have you scanned for any trouble codes, not all codes turn on the trouble lite and changing the battery probanly erased any that mey have been stored ??? and last NEVER replace any part till you know the problem. I would guess you have a sensor problem but without knowing what was happening before it quit makes it difficult to diagnose.

It probably has two fuel pumps as most ford rangers do... Did you check the fuels pump by sound? If you did you may need to investigate further... Fords have many circuit breakers did you check them? If it's turning over but wont start I would start with looking at the circuit breakers and fuses, than move on to check for fuel flow and sparks... Many things that can make this happen...

Is it a full size with the solenoid on firewall? either way jump the the small (s) terminal to the main battery terminal of solenoid. if it turns over you have a problem with the ignition switch system.Be sure its in park or neutral when you jump it.
