I was wondering if there was something i could use to clean the marble with, maybe vinegar and water or something. I doubt murphy's oil soap will work on marble...or will it? I need something that will disenfect and shine. Even if it's a two step process that's fine. I don't want to hire someone either.

any suggestions would be great.

Try this cleaning cloth. You have to buy in packages of 5 but they are only like $3 bucks a piece. I have ordered them and use them on everything, especially cleaning windows and clean mirrors. They are made out of tiny fibers. They are guaranteed not to scratch and all you do is rinse the cloth under water, wring it out and wipe ANY surface with no streaks or scratch. Use em over and over. I have not thrown one away yet!
I even waxed my car with it! I am sold on this ...I encourage you to try it out.

Dont use murphys oil soap! marble is porous. You want to clean it not coat it with petroleum . Marble will not appreciate vinegar either.
use a scotch brite pad and some laundry detergent. spray the marble with the hotest water . or pour it over the marble. This spread dry detergent all over it with a cloth. it ought to heat up and cut through the soap scum nicely. you can also dissolve it in very hot water and make it concentrated and wipe that on the marble . The scotch brite pad is for build up. If the marble is highly polished you want to make sure the scotch brite pad wont scratch it. check an erea 1st! you cant use them for example on any plastic tub enclosures.
if you need to bleach it use hydrogen peroxide.
genearlly the mildest thing you can find is the right thing for marble. were it highly polished and fine I would use bakeing soda and terry cloth damp and lemon juice. maybe.
There are special products for marble. apply them with a rotary buffer and a cloth pad.

Home Depot or a store like it will have a specific product for marble. Make sure to not use just anything or you will erode your finish. I forget the brand, but just ask for a Marble cleaner.

Use wet fabric softener sheets! Bounce works the best. It sounds crazy, but they work great for removing soap scum. Try it! They don't disinfect, though.
