It obviously is a primary language, behind Mandarin Chinese and Spanish.
Did you mean why should it not be the US official language? Well, the US never adopted an official language. Just out of common usage, most things have been done legally in English, but that is not codified anywhere.
Most countries do have an official language, and Congress has suggested making English our official one; but as of 2006, there is no official American language.

English should be the primary language in the United States.
I also believe that its proponents should know spelling, grammar and syntax. An example of which is that shouldn't should be written thus and English should be capitalized. I don't think we should criticize non-English speakers if we who are supposed to know the language can't read it or write it correctly.

There is NO reason why English shouldn't be our primary language. English is our common language. It is what we are conversing in now.
The real question should be, why would anyone what to change it? When you come here to live, you learn English. My ancestors did. Otherwise, stay where you are.

This is American, 90 percent of the people speak english so why should the official language be anything else? Fact is that it should be English all the way and those liberals who are against it should think about who they represent, the American people not themselves.

It never was. In the south and southwest entire regions of the U.S. have spoken Spanish exclusively since their induction to the Union. English was never the only language in the U.S.

IT SHOULD BE. IF PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO LEARN IT BECAUSE THEY THINK THEIR LANGUAGE IS BETTER THEN THEY ARE STUPID.either way it should be, and escpecially in America. We have been speaking English for years, and it's not right for other nationalities to come in and state otherwise.

It should be Because it is the native language to more than one nation and to try to change it now would be like trying to switch horses in the middle of a stream.
