Ten points to the first person who actually reads the details. (Expecting a half million "don't do drugs" responses).

I suffer from a photographic memory. I say suffer because remembering almost everything is not only annoying... it is distracting. I remember stuff I don't even WANT to remember, ontop of it just randomly emerging from my subconscience into thought whilst I progress throughout the day.

Besides my photographic memory... I also suffer from memoric webbing, where one thought can trigger another, resulting in massive chunks of "lost time" emerging from a single stimlus. And if there are multiple stimuli... just call it hell on earth.

And like my advanced vocabulary, much of the information I know or memories I have had remains dormant, and is much harder to induce a stimulus to retrieve them when I wish to. Heck, my 'vocabulary' consists of words I don't even know the meaning to yet I use them in the right context (some times).

So... my strength, is my problem.

That's a tough one. It reminds me a little of what it's like to have a song stuck in your head. And I have a cure for that so something similar might help.

Do you know the Pink Panther tune? Well it's unusual in that you can hold any note in it for any length and still retain the flow of the music. I guess it's kind of like jazz where you can play the same song any way you want basically.

The value of this in brain-song-zapping comes into play because of the way different pieces of music can sound similar. Normally if I'm trying to get rid of or change the song in my head, I force myself to think of another song. But since I have the beat and cadence of one going already it's too easy for the new song to morph into the old song.

Pink Panther to the rescue. When you're forcing the Panther it will also try to morph but as you feel it trying to change you can just hold a note there longer and disrupt the rhythm of the song trying to break through. It requires some thought monitoring to do it because you have to pay attention to whether or not you are slipping into the old song. But it works really well.

I guess you could try developing some cycle of thought that follows on itself so you can call it up when you need a brain break. Like a mantra actually. Something you get ingrained to repeat easily. Basically find a thought process that can distract you from the roller coaster ride of uncontrollable thought you have.

There is another possibility as to what's going on now that I think about it more. This line of reason is scary but bear with me. Some schizophrenics have trouble controlling runaway thoughts. Now schizophrenia very commonly begins in a person's life during their mid to late teens. Consider this. When do you recall first having trouble with these thoughts? If you are 40 and it started in the last ten years you are pretty safe because schizophrenia really never starts showing its symptoms that late. If it started before you were a teenager you are also probably pretty safe.

But if as you think of your history with this annoying thing you've got going on here, you realize it started showing up between 15 and 25 years of age, it could be schizophrenia.

Now I don't mean to scare you but if the timing is reasonable for it to be schizophrenia just go see a doctor. It's quite treatable and if this is your only real symptom so far then you are probably early in its course and it will be even easier to deal with.

But now that we're past that, try a mantra or a song or something and see if that affords some relief.

Oh, and eidetic memory usually degrades a lot in adulthood so it could just go away all by itself but your photographic memory would go in that scenario too and that could be a bummer.

But try the mantra.

Ciao

Hypnosis can help you assign values to your memories, so the most important ones can be retrieved easier, and the unimportant ones will recede to the background.
