Is there no Tourist Office or Association of Motorists in your town? Surely you can get maps, information and best routes from them. If not, get maps from a bookstore, and plan a route yourself. No point in making a random move and get into bad roads or areas with poor facilities, if you have to stay overnight anywhere while on the road.
Try also Yahoo Maps.

Just drive it down or book it by truck. If you plan to stay in Bangalore for a long stint , change the registration and start paying road tax locally. as for insurance obviously it has to be renewed every year.
