Temperature under the arm (axillary) is always lower and less reliable. The temp has to be adjusted upwards by one to two degrees. A better answer is either a tympanic scan thermometer or a forehead scan temp. Both are readily available, accurate and (relatively) inexpensive

You raise it but it's only 1 degree not 2.
the science is not exact but because of room temp interferance you need to raise it just slightly or notify anyone that you are speaking to that it was takin via auxillery (arm)
Here is the definition of fever (and an idea of the diffrences):
100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) measured rectally (in the bottom)
99.5 degrees Fahrenheit (37.5 degrees Celsius) measured orally (in the mouth)
99 degrees Fahrenheit (37.2 degrees Celsius) measured in an axillary position (under the arm)
Check this out (not that you need to know how to but you can read pages like 3&4 which talk about the diffrences.)

Add one degree under the arm. If taken rectally subtract one degree.
Many doctors say rectal temperatures are the only accurate temps.

An armpit temperature is best because it is safest and works fine for a quick check. If the armpit temperature is over 99°F (or 37.2°C), double check it with a rectal temperature. It is good to double check with a rectal temperature because if your baby has a true fever, you should see a health care provider immediately.

Why are you taking a TEMPERATURE under the arm? Under the tongue or rectally is most accurate.
