Never been to Pearsall. I'm originally from California, and I think San Antonio is awesome...the Riverwalk blew me away. But I've heard its not as good to live there (schools are really bad, etc.).
I also like Austin...it has a fun streetlife, an ecclectic arts scene, and I've heard from various people that is also a good place to live. Lots of culture.
