Anything that requires power needs to get that power from someplace. That place is the alternator. The more things that are running, the more power the alternator needs to produce. That takes energy. You get that from gasoline.
OK, the reality is that the amount of energy required is quite small so the difference in fuel consumption would have to be measured in a laboratory.
The more likely cause is that you only use the heated seats on very cold days. Cars will get worse mileage as they warm up and that takes longer on colder days. More significantly, the fluids and lubricants thicken on very cold days and the increased drag will have an effect on fuel economy until they come up to operating temperature, which of course takes longer on colder days.
You're probably not nuts, you've just mis-identified the cause of your poorer economy. Let your butt freeze for a couple of days and you'll probably see that colder days (especially on very short trips) are the cause, not the heated seats.

yes you are nuts. Just joking. your heated seats do not use up any gas. There is an electric component in your seat it does not use gas. i am not sure what type of Mazda you have but i am guessing if you are using your heated seats it is cold out side so you don't live in a warm state. I am also guessing there might be different road conditions that are altering your driving habits.
unless you are constantly using your heated seats now that it is cold outside and not when you first get in the car. if so then get your car checked out because it is something else wrong with your car.

Actually yes, the Electric Heating Elements are powered by something, Alternator/Generator. This is on a Belt that is connected to your Cracknshaft,Timeing, and whatever. Add an AC unit to a car, never run the ac, just have the unit attatched and it takes ?% or Totall Horespower.
More the Alternator Generator has to put out equals more Torque and RPM the Engine has to produce. That repuires petrol.

maybe slightly because your cars alternator has to work harder to produce the amperage of that to keep up. use the seats ony for a little bit at a time after the car has warmed up shut the seats off and run the heat

actually, yes, it does use more gas. because the alternator has to work harder to keep up with the added electrical demand. therefore, your engine has to work harder to keep the alternator working. the difference is small, but it will use more. there are soooo many things that will cause fuel economy to drop alot more than heated seat usage.

No the heated seats will not decrease your gas mileage. They run off of your electrical system.

If you wish to separate hairs, you have got to run the automobile to make use of the heated seats (it'll run off of the battery if the engine is off). Other than that, it's simply electric.
