Motivational speech needed to inspire a high school wrestling team before a prestigious pre season tournament. Moral is kind of low amongst the squad and I need some guidance because I'm walking on eggs with the new AD. The school has a wonderful wrestling history with many championships, but sadly the original name has recently been changed from the Red Warriors to the Spots as so not to offend anyone. Any pep talk must be approved by the new athletic director who tows the political correctness line and can be very critical if she think's the boys are being to aggressive towards the opposing team as a result of my coaching. She has suggested that I keep scores close so everyone can enjoy the sport but I don't think I should sit a wrestler who has worked his butt off and earned his right to showcase his talent and possible cost him a shot at a potential collage scholarship.
Has anyone else been put into this position?
Winning isn't everything, but hard work should not be penalized.

It's time to send your resume to a place that wants a good wrestling program. If you've got a good record then the world is your oyster.

Your AD is an a&&. You should tender your resignation ASAP. This wont' get better, as most school districts virtually tenure their AD (and give them one of the highest salaries).

Hopefully the rest of the coaches feel the same way too, but don't look for the AD to be thrown out anytime soon.

BTW, I was the tuba player in the HS band, and I believe that people should "do" a sport if they are not competitive, but that should NOT come at the cost of those who excel.
