Because they are thirsty. (Sorry, had to throw that in there.)
A lot of people drink (alcohol) to be social. It's a depressent, so it tends to relax people too. Some people just use it as an excuse to get drunk and act like an idiot.

Some people drink because they feel they are more outgoing at social gatherings and party's if they are drunk. Drinking is said to bring out your alter ego, you do things more freely without thinking about what you are doing. Studies show that women who drink are more likely to have unprotected sex which may be another cause for party throwers to provide drinks at their party (especially guys).

I drink because I have to endure the fact that most of the people around me are less cultured and more boring than me.

easier for men to lower their standards
further it's a 'party' lubricant, before most party people are 'bleh' & then you add instant alckyhol & everyone's dancing & going crazy having a 'great' time until the morning or the lights come on.
