So it's the lettuce?
I suppose it's the same way the spinach was contaminated early in the year. You generally don't cook lettuce either, so simply washing it won't really help.
But dang, the lettuce? Agh... That's it, God wants the world to get fat. First spinach, now lettuce... Slowly it's going through the salad goodies. Great.

there is an E. coli breakout and people from 5 different states got food poisoning after eating at Taco Bell. It is believed to be caused by the lettuce because that was the ingredient most common with the things everyone ate. Feds are still looking into it and they have ruled out white onions from a NY Taco Bell which were infected with E. coli, but did not cause the illnesses. Other possibilities of the illnesses are cheddar cheese, ground beef, and green onions. Investigatiors are tracing the lettuce back to where it came from to check if it was what had been infected. As of right now, they are unsure which ingredient was infected

This is common now a days it seems. E.coli is a bacteria that is transmitted several ways, most commonly from people not washing their hands after using the bathroom. Some food handler at their 'lettuce distribution' place may have been guilty of this. But, due to the fact that it was so widespread, the E.coli may have contaminated the lettuce in the fields it was grown from animal manuer. Gross, huh? But it's true. The E.coli could have even became part of the lettuce, so washing it off wouldn't even prevent it.

They said it was the green onions that were contaminated. But lettuce could be contanimated either way, its the fertilizer they use. And they don't clean it properly.

Its not the lettuces fault. Its the illegal mexicans who pick the lettuce. They deficate and urinate in the soil where the lettuce grows. The media will never come out and say it but we all know THATS whats wrong with the lettuce!!!!!!

Everything else you can cook to a hot enough temperature to kill the bacteria. Shredded lettuce on the other hand.....lets just say if their is something in those pre-packaged bags....it isn't even getting washed before it goes on your taco!
Know what I'm saying???

I thought it was the green onions. Hmm! I guess being a vegetarian isn't without risks. It's because the slave labor they use to pick the lettuce, and the people aren't healthy because of the total poverty they are subjected to, as well as no real regulations on the part of the huge factory farm owners.

Excuse me, a few of you; but immigrants have been picking our fruits and vegetables for many years. The last spinach e coli outbreak was due to a farm nearby which had contaminated run off water going into the spinach farmer's fields. So it was not immigrant workers defecating in the workplace.
Read and watch the news. Please.

It's not killer lettuce. It's killer e-coli.
And don't you watch TV? Haven't you ever heard of "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"? Those are the veggies we have to be afraid of. Or are they fruit? Who knows!!
