It usually refers to a person that works in agriculture, or attends a school known for agriculture.

Texas A&M is not the only Division I school with that nickname. Utah State, New Mexico State, North Carolina A&T and UC Davis are all Aggies.

I'm an Aggie and Tiffani is right, Agricultural and mechanical. It's not derogatory at all.
Anyway that's where we got the name AGGIE, it was mainly a military and agricultural school when it was founded in 1876.

A and M stands for Agriculture and Mining, so I guess it would mean an agriculture specialist (farmer)
