I need a laptop that will last me a while. I would put music, photos and many documents on it. Do you recommend Macs or PCs? I have had a bad experience with my past laptops and I really need one that will last. Did I mention that I need it to last? I need the least amount of maintenance as possible.Asthetically pleasing would be a plus.

I will stick to good name brands for starters (HP, Dell, Gateway, Sony...)

Second, I will probably wait until you are enrolled in school. Normally, depending your school, you might find that there are discount deals for student if you buy it through your school. Find out during orientation, or call the school admissions and ask. If they don't have a special deal with any computer company, I will probably then recommend Dell or Gateway based on my experience with them. Both have great warranty and service. Plus, their PCs and Laptops are both durable and reliable.

honestly it depends on the type of college you're going into. If you're not going into an engineering-like field, I would strongly suggest just looking at a macbook/macbook pro. They can also run XP (and Vista). If you don't like macs then I would stick with the large main brands (dell, hp, gateway--no sony!)

right now I am using COMPAQ Presario and I have had no problems what so ever. I download music, create photo videos and put them to music and burn dvd's and c/d's and it works great. just a suggestion, good luck in your search.
