I have this quote that lady macbeth says "Things without all remedy should be without regard: what's done is done".
I am supposed to write an essay on how it has been applied in the lives of Macbeth and Macduff. I need some ideas for this please.

Think about the events of the play.

What has been done that can not be undone?

How do you treat those things?

How does this apply to what Macbeth does?

She's basically saying: "you can't change the past, so stop dwelling on it."

Neither Macbeth nor Macduff can stop living in the past. Macbeth is plagued by the guilt of killing Duncan. From the moment he committed the murder, he pretty much knew he was doomed. But, he is unable to relax into the role of King; instead, he keeps imagining OTHER potential enemies...and he keeps kiling.

As for Macduff, he can't forgive himself for having been away in England (recruiting Malcom) when Macbeth sent the murderers to kill his family. He becomes man motivated solely by the thought of revenge.

I wish I could help you, but it would be bad luck, since you used the name of the play instead of saying "the Scottish tragedy." :)
