It can be hard to cut dark nails, but not impossible. You might want to ask someone to shine a light on his nails while you're cutting, so you can see where the quick (flesh) ends. If you're unsure, cut only a little bit at a time.

If this is the first time you've had to cut nails, & don't feel up to the task yet, you can always take him to your vet for a trim.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by a thick toe nail though. Sometimes nails tend to curl, which would give it a different appearance. If it's curling, then it should definitely be cut, to prevent it from injuring your guinea pig while he walks.

i think you should try going to a pet store or a vet. That way you will know what to do next time and also that way nothing bad will happen to you guinea pig. I used to have a guinea pig then it died of old age.

It should be cut, BUT, carefully. Do not cut into the quick. It will bleed and be sore. You may find some books that show you how.
In the wild, along with normal running, animals scratch trees and stones to control growth.

Replace the guinea pig instead. It's easier.

you might want to see a vet on this. you can also trim it yourself( i find scissors and baby nail clippers good) but considering he is black i think a vet would be your best choice

while watching TV let it soak in your mouth. It will soften the toe nail and you can than shave it with your teeth.
