Nobody. It wasn't discovered, it was invented. You discover things that already exist but nobody else has seen. Like mountains and rivers and new species of life.

Phillips, in collaboration with Sony, invented the CD and the CD player. Work started in 1979 and the first units went on the market in 1982 -- at over $1,000.00 for a player.
