trace the history of christianity to the coronation of charlemagne in 800. what distinctive features characterized the early church? what role did the church play in the world after the fall of the western roman empire?

Thank you so much.

Okay, let's break down the assignment:
Was it REALLY "trace the history of Christianity from Charlemagne?" That's a doctoral dissertation. If that's what they meant, there's got to be a timeline. Maybe you misunderstood the scope of the assignment. Hey, it happens.
Anyway, moving on, the last two theses seem pretty straightforward, but let's rephrase 'em: In your lecture and reading, what stands out about the early Catholic church opposed to today?
How much influence did it have over the social and political life of Western Europe?
Good luck, if you're still stumped have your professor explain the scope of the assignment to you.

Rome was mainly anti-Christian until Charlemagne came about. He introduced Christianity as the major religion of Rome and after the fall of Rome, many western European countries picked Christianity as their dominant religions. This gave the Chrisitian Church a good deal of political influence as well as its predominance in our society today where more that half of the religious followers belong to a branch of the Christian Church.
