because it sounds right. they write and rewrite until it meets their standards, until it fits perfectly. if they dont know good music from bad music, then they arent very good musicians. it doesnt matter how many fans they have, or if they get radio play. if they are serious and good, they will know

If you play in gigs and people actually come all the way just to see your band perform, no matter the day of the week, or time of the day the show starts, with door entry or no door entry fee...
If you perform one of your original numbers and people know your song and actually sing along to it at the chorus...
If your myspace music band page has numerous visitors every time and plenty of people downloading or streaming your music...
When your band has groupies you never knew the band had before...

Guess it's time to admit that your band's music appeals to a whole lot of people out there. Therefore, it is safe to say that, it rocks.

Usually, they just know that a song is going to be a hit. Nothing tells them, it's just a feeling. Also, if they like playing or listening to the song, chances are that their fans will too.

Play at an open mic night. Invite friends over, play for them and check out their reaction.
