I think there is a difference between pride in one's race and ignorance. If what you are saying is something that ups your race and shows pride in your race then that's fine. Be proud of who you are. But if you are just saying something seriously negative against someone else's race then yes, the racism may be a problem.

No it's not ok but I do not think there is 1 person that never said a bad thing about someone else, if there is they must be some sort of religious figure. We all think and sometimes say things we don't mean or want to, it slips out in anger. I think Michael Richards made a mistake we all make at one time or another, we let our anger guide us and we say hurtful things, the most hurtful and nasty we can think of at the time because we are either mad or hurt. It's not ok to be racist and censorship isn't ok either, everyone needs to be open minded regarding race and hear the truths of the world and life.

in a football team you can prove your dominance on the field. and because of the small numbers of the people, you can probably argue that everyone is equal to each other to some degree, and is representative of the team. Race doesn't work that way. In every race you're going to have the best and the brightest, and then some people you just wonder about. Because of this, you can't say that the entire group is better than another group. add on to this a desire to suppress someone else's human rights because they don't belong to your group and you have racism in action. Of course people should be proud of their culture. Everyone. It pisses me off when i hear whites or anyone else talk badly about their group. Because anytime you do that you are being racist (you don't have to believe YOUR group is the best to be racist).
off my soap box. anyway, racism is bad, pride is good.

I think the answer would start out with the words "it depends".
There's different degrees of racism. I think what Michael Richards did was on the less-damaging side. I'm not trying to defend Michael Richards, but I think we have to go after "the bad guys". We're not going to stop every racist, but if we concentrate our efforts on the most potentially harmful ones, then we can achieve more.
I think it's OK to be racist. Racism isn't illegal here. But is racism a "slippery slope"? Maybe Richards' racism stops at that. Maybe that's as racist as he gets. But maybe it's not. We don't know, so you have to look at it as a 50/50 split. Racism has just as much potential of being harmful as it does being harmless.
That's the problem with everything, not just racism. People want to brand something as good or bad so they can be identified more easily, and therefore dealt with more easily. The truth is it all depends on the context.
I'm tired.

No it's not okay, for obvious reasons. we live in a multi-ethnic world and racism would only lead to hostilities and destruction. The football analogy isn't a good one either, becuase there is variety within a football team.
In reality, there is no such thing as race, the human species covers all lines of the melomin spectrum. The color of ons skin has to do with climate and what part of the world yo or you ancestors originate from.
RACISM IS THAT DISTANT PLACE ONE GOS TO, WHEN ONE ASPIRE TO THAT UGLY THING CALLED ELITISM

I think your are confusing two different things. It is absolutly okay to take pride in your own heritage and culture-that is commendable and should be encouraged.
Racism is something very different. Racism is hating or devaluing others who are not part of your own people/culture/group simply because they are different than you. It is always accompanied by a variety of justifications (excuses) for the hatred--some examples: all blacks are stupid, all Latinos are dirty, all Muslims are violent. Any of these stereotypes is provably untrue--but these and other attributes are always ascribed by the racist to those he/she hates and wishes to belittle.
Pride in your own people is great--racism is not okay, anywhere, anytime, for any reason. The way to balance your pride in your own people/culture with the differences you will see in others is to recognize and respect their right to live the way they chose--and to recognize that they have every right to be as proud of their heritage as you are of yours. further, if you take the time to learn something about those different from you, you will find their cultures are fascinating--and have as much to offer in their own distinct way--as your own.

It's been around forever and will be around forever. I have friends of different races, but I guess their my friends because they don't act racist. People say their not racist but when they see someone acting racist their racism comes out also. So I say yes and no.

Bad, bad question. No, it is definitely NOT right to be racist. If you have prejudice thoughts towards a certain race..or to all races except yours, you have problems. It is horrible to automatically dislike someone just because of their color/beliefs.

no but I really dislike are the racial posters of Native Americans be shot, hung killed, posters of blood at sports games! I really don't like the idea of using Native American tribe names ect/ect. I beleive it's wrong. I'm Native American and white. Soo, how about a foot fall team call white quakers in action? See not too many white names! Either way it's wrong!

Racism implies hatred but supporting your own race does not imply hatred for another race. I believe we should all be free to say whatever we want, but hatred is hatred no matter how you look at it. Racism is not okay.
