September 11, it started the whole war on terrorism and also influenced some people's political views radically. The change to commercialism and the race to keep people interested in advertisements - all the advertisements that are thrown around actually make people less enthused and with tivo, they can tape things and fast forward through commercials. Diseases - smallpox is out, AIDS and cancer is in. These diseases are much harder to fight since they mutate and adapt to drugs. Homosexuality is becoming a more open issue. I doubt there are more homosexuals than in previous eras but it is becoming more acceptable to be recognized as one which ties into the AIDS issue. If AIDS had not been stereotyped as a "gay" disease, it would have been quarantined much faster and would not be as big a problem in the U.S. Music has changed a lot; rap was introduced and has become a major music genre. Schools have started a huge state testing campaign like the WASL in Washington State. Also, in some states, education tax money is being cut and it will affect the public school systems drastically. I predict that those states will resort to more private schooling which puts less wealthy people at a disadvantage. These are only a few changes that have occurred, I hope this helps but I would be able to give a more complete answer if you gave a time period to work with.
