I try not to wait more than an hour, but it depends on the day and the season. At Six Flags Great Adventure, I've waited upward to 4-5 hours just to get on the brand new roller coaster... obviously that's most of your day. Your best bet is to wait for a light rain day, then go right after the rain. Most of the people will clear the park, but when it stops, they open the rides up again within an hour. Then there literally is no lines.

It depends on the weather I've been to parks on days that were sunny and had comfortable temps like 69-80 with a 4 hour wait. and days where it was drizzly and cold or too hot and there was no line for the exact same ride.

when SheiKra opened in bush gardens about two years ago i waited in line 2 hrs an that was at a sneak peak night where there was only pass holders regular people with out the ticket could not ride an saw the line 3 hrs long (bush gardens does not offer fast pass )

it depends on how many people are there(at the amusement park), in line, and how long the ride is
like the boomerang at darien lake is a fairly popular ride but you usually dont have to wait any more than a couple minutes
but the superman at darien lake is very popular and is a long ride, and i was waiting once for 3 hrs. so it all depends on the circumstances.

On down times, I have often been able to walk up to the turnstiles (as in pretty close to the coaster).

I think the longest I've waited was 3 hours. But for the "X" at Six Flags, it was totally worth it.

On a bad day, more than two hours. On a good day (low attendance), maybe 20 minutes at worst.
