Today I bought a box of vintage jewelry and in it there were a few pairs of earrings for unpierced ears but instead of clip ons, they screwed tighter and tighter to your earlobe untill they were on there well enough to stay. Do you know what decade these were popular in?

Ah...screwbacks!

They're great, because you can adjust the pressure to your exact needs. They are still quite popular in countries where piercing is considered barbaric (such as Japan).
