I've been dating my boyfriend for over a year. He interrupts me WAY TOO MUCH. I've tried to explain to him that i don't like this and it annoys me but he continues to make the same mistake. I want to be able to talk it out in an effective way without getting angry or yelling. It's really hard and frustrating to have a conversation with him because he either interrupts me or changes the subject immediately no matter WHAT we're talking about!
fed up and annoyed please help!!!

I won't be told that I'm a bad listener and that I ramble. I am very patient and ALWAYS listen to what he has to say. Thank you.

Well it appears that your boyfriend has to have the 1st and last word. There is a saying, "I can show you better than I can tell you". In other words let him know that he interrupts and that it takes two to have a conversation.
2nd let him know that if he continues to do this that you will no-longer respect what he has to say because he doesn't take the time to listen to your feelings. Bottem line is you may have to take matters in your own hands and talk to him by using actions instead of words.

The problem with this is the simple fact that he is going to have to see what he is doing and want to change it. I would probably just sit and not say anything and let him ramble on about whatever it is. Then after a while of you being quiet, I bet he will start to wonder why it is that you are. That is the opportunity for you to say something to the effect that you are not sure you should say anything because it seems that he has more to say than you do. If you cannot iron all of this out, I don't see a future for you and him. Communication is a huge key in any relationship and if you cannot express yourself freely, you are not going to be happy. Good luck!

Sounds like he has A.D.D but anyways you said you dont want to have to yell but honey at this point if he's not listening to you then maybe it is about time you raise yyour voice and over power his and maybe he will listen. That is a very rude thing he is doing and you need to comfront him about it..either your doing it by writing a note..email...yell or what ever you need to COMFRONT HIM!
Good luck.
And congrats to a year of realtionship<3

The next time you have a conversation with him and he interrupts you, bring it to his attention at that time and make him realize what he did.

He doesn't give you the respect you deserve, I don't think a year or anytime invested in a relationship gives anyone the right to disrespect a person- especially if he is suppose to be a SPECIAL person in our lives.

well, no relationship is good without good communication. i say: do the same to him! i bet he wont like it if you interrupt him every time just as he does. express your feelings! tell him that he is annoying you and if he doen't like it or keeps doing it after you talked to him, then i suggest you dump him, but if you really like him, then keep trying. good luck!

That is probably the way he saw his father treating his mother when he was growing up. He can't help it. If it drives you crazy, take a hike.

If you can talk, don't! Write him a note or type him an e-mail and threaten him so he actually listens for once.

If you are setting on his face, how can you hear him? Are you tracking here? The 'muff'led noise my give you the relief you need.
