I have pet rats and I'm trying to sell them,but any one I TELL THINK I'M disgusting ,WHY?

I think it's because when people think of rats they think of the dirty, disease carrying sewer kind not the pet kind, so all rats get a bad rep. Too bad because pet rats are very clean and smart animals and make great pets.

I don't think that rats are gross, I just don't care for them, and the reason why is where we lived rats weren't pets they were something that got in to your basement and your garbage. So it's not you that is disgusting it's the rats. I think that's why I have two snakes now, rats are pet food at our house. If you've ever lived in the projects you'll know what I mean. Good luck selling your rats.

Well... most people inherently hate rats because, in earlier times in history, rats were rather notorious for carrying diseases. As with many things, prejudices that are instilled generation after generation are often some of the most difficult to eradicate.
...Domestic rats are actually some of the best pets you can have... I have seen them take care of abandoned baby mice and gerbils in the past as if they were there own...

I have 6 rats and they have free run of the house fairly often. To tell the truth they are the cleanest pets i have owned. I run a bath for them every 2 days and as soon as i yell 'bath time' they come running. They also do a few great tricks such as beg and roll over, play dead and nod yes or shake no.

Because the media has given them a bad name.
Also, in many years past, they truly were disease carrying *can you say The Black Plague?* and often times ate and destroyed stored grains. Wild rats generaly are icky, but pet rats are great, we just need to educate the public.

Well, because rats throughout time have been labeled as dirty and "bad", due to the fact that they are vectors. Rats can carry a myriad of diseases, and due to their natural tendency to scavenge and hide in places that humans consider dirty, very few people recognize how smart (and clean) they can actually be.
I have a rattie...she was intended to be snake food, but she dodged the snake three times, and is now a pet. I adore her, and marvel at how she often reminds me of a tiny dog.

My boyfriend says i cant get a rat. I LOVE them! Pet rats are beautiful and VERY VERY VERY inteligent. But I guess it's because they have a bad rep for being disease ridden animals that live in sewers.. Which is stupid.. only wild rats are like that... :p hehe but.. I love them

I dont know. I think it is the tail that freaks people out. Me and my grandma will be at the pet store and she'll be like "Oh look how cute that hamster is" And I say "How can you think that's cute, but you think my rats are gross?" Whatever. I love them. I have 12. I'd like to take one off your hands but as you can probably tell, I already have a handfull myself.

I got my pet rat from someone who had the same problem.
She just couldn't sell it, no one wanted her.
So she gave the rat, Amiga, to me complete with her cage, wheel, water bottle and ball.
If you get desperate you might want to try the same thing. I'm not saying it will be impossible to sell them but if they're not young it might be hard.

rats are awesome! i just lost a baby hairless a few Weeks ago (tear) he was so cool. ppl dont realize rats are not dirty. they are always cleaning their selfs. your not disgusting!
