Danger! If you have gasoline smell in your washer, you must have put in clothes that had gasoline on them. You are very lucky you didn't have an explosion caused by the fumes. Water does not dilute or get rid of gasoline. You need to leave the washer unused for about a week, stuff the drum with crumpled newspaper to absorb the fumes. Then after a week, remove the paper, and run a full cycle, keeping watch at a safe distance if you still smell gasoline. Many people have been burned or died as a result of washing gasoline-contaminated clothes. Anytime clothes are contaminated, they need to be aired out for a week or more outside, or just thrown away.

Generally if you smell gasoline, there is enough to cause ignition. Isn't that a wonderful thought! So disconnect all the hoses and open the lid and let the machine air out for several days. Then reconnect and run a cycle with some baby oil thrown in.

Gasoline is an oil based product, therefore, use another oil based product to pull out the odor (which is left because all the gas oil has not been removed yet). You can use any kind of oil that normally washes out of clothing, like baby oil. Put some of the oil into the machine , let it swish around for a while, then put in the detergent and all should come out okay. Please note, no clothes in this cycle. That should do it.

Run the tub of washer full with hot water and add 2-3 cups of bleach and turn it to the longest cycle- before it goes to rinse check the smell- if not gone (should be) turn it back to wash again! Hope that helps!

Add a pint of white vinegar to your next load.

If that doesn't work, add a couple of small or one large baking soda to a load.
