I moved to Alaska in 1999 and would have never left except the Army made us go 3 years later. My husband and I plan to retire up there once the kids are grown and we are old. We may even move up there sooner if life allows but ya never know. I must say that I hated it for my first year there and then I fell in love. It is the most beautiful, clean, outdoorsy, laid back place I have ever seen. No one is in a hurry to get anywhere. There is no such thing as a traffic jam. I don't think I heard a single police siren in 3 years. The water out of the faucet tastes better than any bottled water on the planet. The northern lights make your jaw hit the ground and the summers are so fantastic with all the daylight you could be partying in your yard getting trashed with the neighbors and the next thing you know its 4am and you thought is was just after dinner.

my sister and her new husband just moved to Alaska because he is in the Army and stantioned there. She hates it, and I'm quite sure she'll be ready to move when they can.
