Go to your county clerk's office and pick up the correct forms to use in that county. Ask them to explain how to fill out the forms. Be very sure to fill everything out exactly as they say. If you make any mistakes you will have your divorce denied.
You really need to pay a legal secretary to go over the forms when you are done to check them for you. It doesn't cost nearly as much as a divorce and is worth it to have things done right the first time.

Depending on where you live, you can file an UNCONTESTED divorce, usually after a year of legal separation, if you both sit down together and agree on the division of your property, the responsibilities towards any children you may have, etc. All you'll have to pay is a filing fee for court. Unfortunately, most divorcing couples aren't emotionally mature enough to do that! You can find a good do-it-yourself divorce kit online. Good luck!

It's very easy to send out for the papers. It's up to how your future ex is...if she is the kind to fight over everything. Or she had raised alot of debt in the marriage, have a contested divorce in those cases. It's like a $100 more depending on the state. Protect yourself that way.

Filing yourself is a huge pain. If you are having a "good" divorce I suggest using a paralegal divorce service. My ex and I used one. We had decided to split our assets and move on. This was in California and it cost about $850.00. They filed all the paperwork and worked through the legal process. It was a good deal.

You can get the papers from the county courthouse or even online or buy them from a place like Staples. if there are no kids or property, you might just need to pay the court fees, which are under $400 in most cases. This varies from state to state, though, and also everything is different if there are kids, etc.

I did, well what I did was pay a "paralegal" to do the filing for me, he charged me about $250, plus the filing fees were $300. If you live in So Cal, I can give you his number.

He, who chooses to represent himself, has a fool for a lawyer. Cheaper is not always better...especially when children, and or property are involved
