In order to create one thing, you must use something else as a base, even on a nuclear level... but if the universe is constantly expanding, where is it getting the space from to expand into? I was always taught that you can't get something from nothing, and even science can prove that.... This question literally hurts my head sometime... =) Isn't quantum physics fun!

I think our understanding of the universe and how it operates is limited by a brain that deals mostly with 3 dimensional stimulus. When we think about space we think about 3 dimensional space, perhaps there is no boarder to the universe and if we were to reach the edge of it we may probably go around in a circle or something and come out the otherside of the universe.

This is *not* quantum physics! This is relativity and cosmology.

The simple (?) answer is that space itself is expanding...that is what an "expanding universe" is all about. What is it expanding into? Nothing, not even space. Stephen Hawking may be the only person on the planet who can really get his head around that idea.

Extra space huh? Well, guess what? I have been wondering the same thing...but I do have another question about that...WHERE IS THE UNIVERSE EXPANDING? Ever thought of that?

The space is what is expanding. There is no "extra" space. All the space that ever existed is present. It is simply getting larger.

Space is defined by the matter - if there is no matter, there is no space and if there is no space, there is no matter. Here's a good one for you - the center of the entire universe IS the entire universe.

If the universe is physically infinite in size, then it doesn't need to come from anything. It'll just increase. Just like numbers can increase.

The universe is not expanding into empty space. it is expanding into NOTHING.

Matter is expanding, not space.

Time and space is beyond out understanding.

If you take quantum entities you can not expand them you can only rarefy them.
If you rarefy them enough they will go out of existence.
