Just wondering about getting a Satellite for TV programming and then going with a cable modem, because the cable internet is much faster here than DSL, and I'd like the fastest possible connection. Would I be able to use both of these at the same address? Didn't know since they both work through the cable outlets....

No electronic reason not to.Could be cheaper just to do them both with the same company though. The TV connection and the cable don't interfer with each other ( I have fast connection on cable with TV and phone still crusing the net with no probs! I play alot of intense video games too.)

Yes & No. It depends on what cable provider is in your area. Most have it where you have to have cable service through them in order to have cable internet service. But, a lot of them allow you just to have cable internet. It also depends on if you have a great signal where you live and you also have to factor in rain fade and downtime for the satellite service. Hopefully you won't have to have basic cable in order to have cable internet!

I've had both and i would definitely say direct tv. I have comcast right now and the only reason I have kept it is because my apartment complex wont allow satellite dishes. comcast has horrible customer service, i am always having to call them about my bill because they always over charging me. they are also expensive for the first 6mon its not bad but after that it doubles. also if you are thinking about getting DVR with them dont. its very confusing at first and dosent allow to save many shows may 20. When i had direct tv i loved it and never had any problems.

You can have both - however most cable companies (like opt-online) have cheaper prices for all there services - the more of them you use.

Yes indeed, I dont see any problem with that and you can always use splitters which is not your case but I dont think you really need an splitter in case you need one go to home depot and get one.

yes. generally, the satelite companies will hook up their own outlets and cable and such. and if not, then just go to best buy or radio shack and get a splitter. just tell them what you want to do, and they will hook you up!!
