they say the middle...not only does it make the baby closer to you, but considering that most accidents are side impact accidents, it is more safe in the middle (not to mention that if you have a car that has side impact air bags, that could be extremely dangerous for a child if in a collision where those airbags are deployed)

That depends on if there is a brother or sister who rides back there as well. I know when I had my first son I put him behind the passenger seat so that if I was driving and he started cryin I could reach back there and pat his belly or stroke his face to calm him or put his binkie back in his mouth which I couldn't do if he was behind the drivers seat. If you have another child that could be back there too then it wouldn't matter which side. I would not put my child in the middle because should the seat belt fail then the first place baby goes is through the windshield.

I think the best place is behind the passenger seat. This way you can see him or her if there is a problem you can see what it is and it is also easier to get him or her out of the car

Carseat manuals and everything else you will read says the middle is the best place. I think its probably because the middle seatbelt normally isn't a lap shoulder belt. The plain old lap belt is easier to adjust and doesn't need a locking belt clip to keep it in place. Plus if the baby is in the middle you can still see him/her by just glancing back.

I have heard the middle is the safest, and easiest to get to for th mom. However, my seat belt for the middle of my SUV wouldnt work properly so I had to put her behind the passenger seat which is almost equally easy.

The middle in the backseat is suppose to be the safest place for the baby. And rear facing til the child is 1 year old. As for why it is suppose to be the safest, im not sure. Thats just where i have always heard to put them. Merry christmas!

You heard correctly. Rear facing, and only rear facing. You can get a mirror to put on the seat that will allow you to see the baby, but otherwise, he is out of sight. ADD: Legally, the baby must be 1 year old AND over 20 pounds to be forward facing. It is; however, recommended that you wait until 15 months AND 25-30 pounds. The risk of neck injury is greatly reduced in rear-facing seats.

middle, that is the safest place in the car. when someone is in the middle.....they are not near the doors and window, if you get into an accident....they are less likely to hit the doors and windows. It is the safest place in the car for anyone.
