I'm reserved and shy but I want to become more opinionated and express my thoughts more openly. I'm just afraid I will lose some friends because my opinions and thoughts will be in conflict with theirs.

Did anyone lose their friends when you became more opinionated?

yes there are some who are loosing their friends because of that but that's the time that you will see and realize who your true friends really are.

if they don't respect you for who you are then they are not really your true friends and your true friends will stick by you no matter what your opinion is. When i first meet people, if im not comfortable in the evironment, i'll be very shy... but as time goes on, i can be more myself, energetic , fun, etc. Sometimes, people don't like that about me or they thought i was something different. At first it hurt that people couldn't accept the real me, but it turns out that they were stuck-up anyway and couldn't really accept anyone. As time goes on you begin to realize that life's too short to care about what other people think.... when you are able to live how you want and not care about what other people think... you will be very happy.. i promise.

also, you may not lose your friends because your thoughts conflict with theirs but because you expressed your thoughts in a negative manner.... so be careful about that

yes i did once when one of my friends asked me how her boyfriend looked and i said ugly and she took that offensive...but the point is that she wasnt my friend in the first place your true friends would except you no matter what and wouldnt think twice about it!!...yes it is true you and your friend wont see eye to eye on everything but who cares thats something that you and your friend both cant help thats just how it will work! Trust me you will know the right thing and besides there is always a right way to say everything no matter what it is. so dont be so mean about expressing your opinions i guaranttee if you do it in the nice way everything will go smoothly. good luck! merry christmas and a happy new year!!!

No...that is why they even love me more. You have a right to your own opinion. If your lose any friends because you express your opinions and thoughts, then they weren't true friends. :)

Not everyone agrees with everything all the time. It is alright to sometimes to agree to disagree. Just be respectful of how they feel and dont try to push what you think onto them.

If someone stops your friendship just because you may have a different oppinion then them they must of not been that good of a friend as you thought. good luck.

No, but I HAVE lost my friend because I LOST my true self. I have been clean for 11 years and have no doubt of who my true self is now!!
If you are ready to share your true opinions go for it!! True friends will not abandon you because of them. If they can't handle your individuality then they aren't really your true friends anyway. Speak your mind..always showing compassion and never forcing your beliefs on others and none of your friends should feel threatened at all.

Sadly, yeas but I have way more friends now and at least I know who my true friends are. I also feel better about myself because I stand up for myself and my opinions.
