I think schools should require that cell phones be turned off and there should be a three-strikes rule. If your phone rings in class once, you get a warning. Twice, you get detention. Three times, your phone is confiscated and you can't have it back until the end of the semester OR you get suspended. I made it all the way through school without a cell phone, as did all of my peers, but my sister, for example, uses her cell for getting a ride after drama is over (usually dinner time). Banning cells may not be practical but strict rules are.

As a mom I say kids should have phones in school. I want to make sure my kids can get me if they need me and with so many kids being abducted you can't take a chance. Now on the other hand the phones should be off during school hours. They should be on vibrate or off so there is no disruptions. There is no need for a kid to be having someone calling them during school time. We had this same problem when I was in school but with us it was beepers lol. Does that show my age? We couldn't have beepers bec they thought if you had a beeper you were doing or dealing drugs lol. How dumb!

Yes, they should be turned off as soon as you enter the school area. There is a device that emits an rf signal that stops the signal from the cell site from reaching the phone. Schools could use that device to stop cell phone usage when in school.

I do not think cell phones should be banned from school because what if something serious were to happen?you could just call the police or call whoever is needed.

Yes, during school hours. I am in college and get VERY annoyed by people's cell phones going off all the time. I think you are 100% correct, you are there to learn, not to be distracted!

High school students should be old enough and mature enough to handle the responsibility of putting their cell on 'silent' during class and taking care of it so it isnt stolen. Forbidding them in school a). wont work coz kids will sneak anyways and b) wont teach the kids how to behave as grownups (almost)

I don't think so. I mean I do see students in my school using them when they're not supposed to, but essentially we do need them for an emergency or when we must call someone to pick us up.

I agree but in highschool students also have jobs and if their manager needs to reach them during school hours then i think they should be able to have them but keep them on vibrate
