I added to much oil and the oil pressure went all the way up to high and i drove it home and the next day my husband took out all the oil then replaced it with the correct amount, but it still shows as high. Now it's making a noise and we don't know what to do or what it may be. It's just been sitting in our drive way for about a week. We can't afford to take it to the dealership right now. He lost his job and i'm the only one working.

Relax. Over filling isn't always the end. First of all the ''high'' reading your seeing may be the proper reading for the oil pressure (depending on the viscosity or thickness of the oil added). Is the reading in a red or danger zone? As far as the sound you hear, you may have, as a result of overfilling, introduced excess oil into the cylinders. As long as your husband now has the correct amount of oil installed, start the car let it idle for about thirty seconds to a minute, then race the engine to clean out the unwanted oil in the cylinders. Repeat this cycle two or three times. Your mystery noise should disappear.

when you first change the oil, the pressure will increase due to increased viscosity. When I change the oil on my car, the oil pressure jumps from it's normal 30 psi or so to 100. When you added too much oil, the pressure might have went up for a different reason than it is now . Also, what is the noise it is making?
