When urine and sewer smells persist near a toilet despite careful cleaning, there could be an air leak at the wax ring of the toilet or in the vent pipe. Rotted or damp wood can also cause the smell, not likely in a new home, but it happens.

Check to see if the toilet is tightly sealed to the floor. Grab the bowl of the toilet and try to slide it from side to side. It should resist a few pounds of pressure. If the toilet rocks from side to side, the wax ring has failed.

To replace the wax ring, hire a professional plumber. It's necessary to check the spacing between the pipe flange and the toilet base, and it is difficult to properly secure a toilet in place.

Another thought is there is a hole in the vent or one of the vent pieces has slipped.....the sanitary stack that goes to the roof and that keeps the plumbing system working under proper air pressure. Let's hope not as that means opening up a wall and resetting the stack. You could get RotoRooter or some other company to come out and examine the sanitary stack from the roof down.......how? Maybe a camera?

Final thought is if this is a bathroom that isn't used often, then the trap can evaporate. That's the water that's trapped in the bend in the pipe that keeps the sewer smell from coming back up. Flushing and pouring water down sink/shower/bath every few weeks should be enough to keep the water level up and the gases sealed out.

There is a wax ring that makes a gas prof seal between the toilet and the flange on the end of the sewer pipe. This could be leaking. If it is leaking you will probably not see a fluid leak so do not be fooled into thinking that no fluid leak means no gas leak.

Go to home depot and buy a wax ring. If your floor is tiled, it is possible that you will need an extra ring as the flange on the end of the pipe may be below the finished floor level. Get one any way, they only cost maybe $2.

Remove the plastic caps covering the nuts or bolts that hold the toilet in place. Remove the fresh water inlet. Lift the toilet out. Clean all the wax off.....it is really sticky stuff. Put the new ring(s) in place, they have instructions on the packet, and bolt the toilet back in place. Do not over tighten the nuts or bolts, you do not want to crack the bowl.

From your description and added comments, I'd say the most likely suspect is the wax ring has gone bad. While these usually last many years, it is also not unusual that they fail in a year or two, particularly if they got damaged during the installation. I would suggest you get a new ring and replace it. I'd also seal the bottom of your toilet when you replace the ring. You can use a bead of plumber's caulk or (better I think) use some silicon caulk.

We have had the same problem with a half bath in our house! My dad said its the sewer line backing up and the fumes from the line are coming back up to that particular toilet. We had our sewer line rotted (sp?) out from that toilet, and have had no problems yet.

i'm guessing that the least confusing way would be to get rid of the bathroom and attain into it from below. That truthfully will paintings. as far as issues to attempt rather, try to be waiting to realize down into the bend of the bathroom and snag the caught field. no count if it quite is produced from plastic (I have not any theory what that style of purifier is packaged in) then utilising a plumbers snake that has a pointed hook on the tip may well be waiting to seize it. there are a form of them maximum having a versatile shaft and a take care of to coach. attempt turning and in case you think of you have hooked it save turning and pulling up. in case you won't be in a position to snag it attempt pushing right down to deliver it previous the bend.

drain kin's answer sounds right, the trap under the sink dries up and fumes come in, same with the bowl. the cheapest idea is to use it more often and then you will see if there are any leaks as others have suggested.

could be the 'stink pipe.' there is suposed to be a pipe the allows icky gases to escape above the water line. if this pipe is non-existant or cloged the gasses escape through other outlets like toilets or shower drains.
