how can tell if your female dog is just having a false pregnancy. only serious answers please. i need to know.

my female rat terrier was left alone with my mini pin. now i wasnt home all the time. she was in heat and i dont know for sure if he got her. she is showing all the signs of pregnancy.
She keeps trying to make her a bed out of anything and she has got milk but i cant find any babies at all. if she is pregnant then they will be born sometime in the next week and a half by my guess. now my mini pin is really really small so they might be just really really little babies or she is having a false pregnancy. i have raised chihuahuas and brought a many of pups into this world but i have never had one with maybe a false pregnancy.
only serious answers needed no silly wise cracks please this is my pet and companion i am asking about.

Sounds like a false pregnancy to me- lactating and nesting are common behaviors. Does she look pregnant at all? By that I mean actually having a growing stomach. If they are due in the next week or two she would be showing right now, even if she was bred with a small dog- even breeding draft horses with smaller TBs- the baby is always a bit more relative to the mother's size than the sires.

Although it could be false pregnancy, if she was with the male while in heat, it is probably a real pregnancy. The milk and nesting behavior can be in the last 7-10 days. A vet can feel the pups if they are there at this point.... it might be helpful just to know "yes" or "no". Once you know it is "no", then we can post about false pregnancy.
