Are pageants catered to white children and is it likely for an african-american, latino or asian child to win a pageant?

Recently in my town a black girl won. I know because my mom's friend's daughter was in it, and I was forced to go watch. I think child pageants are just outright creepy. They're all dressed up like adults. And to judge kids on their cuteness? People say it creates self esteem, but it only creates that for the winner. There are poor little girls going home and crying because they don't think that they're cute enough to win.

Everyone has a fair chance at winning but it's mostly Caucasian people do it. It's not that the "minority" are smarter or whatever it's just that they don't really think about it as much. Not all pageants are glam pageants either. There are some that is all about natural beauty and personality. Like kids under the teen and junior teen division are not allowed to wear make up. There are more pageants in the southern area and there is more Caucasian in that area. If you actually look at past title holders on some pageant, you can see that it's not just Caucasian and if you watch them compete, you can see why they won.

Sorry one more thing...I just found this story about the first African-American to win the Lone Star state in the Miss America Pageant.

I'm sure they all have pageants for different races or ethnic heritages. But I think a lot of the pageants are down south and who mainly lives down south? Whites. I think those child pageants focus too much on beauty and make children look like dolls. So in general I think they are wrong.

The pageants such as you mentioned are in my opinion is child exploition. A child that is forced to wear a ton of makeup and dress like a hooker is not a beauty. They are beautiful when they appear in a contest naturally.

I've never thought about that before... but I don't think it's a positive experience for children anyway, regardless of whether they win or lose. Pageants send the wrong message to children.

Aww geez more whining, do black parents even enter their kids in these things? If so then they have just as good of chance as anyone. Why do we need as one person suggested seperate contest for minority children that teaches seperatism at a young age. Just like we don't need the black Ms. America pageant and all that other seperatist crap blacks feel the need to have.

Isn't having to have a seperate pageant just admitting defeat that one group can't compete with another?

If non caucasian children do not win. Then why does not someone set up a pageant for African American children, where they can experience winning.

Honestly, I think those child pageants are so *** backwards for making little kids dress like that so it makes sense that its a mid-western thing. And since the mid-west is mostly white, I guess its because of the environment.

Maybe it's just that most African-American, Latino, and Asian parents have more respect for their daughters than to submit them to such a foul, disgusting, paedophile-friendly, abominable farce.

With a low proportion of these races competing, there will naturally be a higher percentage of White kids winning.

I think they are really really creepy.

So instead of worrying about why minority kids don't win them I usually wonder why do parents let their kids be in them.
