Although citizens of the European Union no longer generally get their passports stamped upon arriving in or departing from another EU member state, will the authorities still give you an entry/exit stamp if you ask for one?

It's possible I suppose, but I don't think it's likely. I check passports on a daily basis at the moment and have yet to see any EU member state passports with a stamp from another member state.
You could definitely ask, but I think you'd get some odd looks.

If you are travelling by road you won't even see officials. I travel all the time and I have one stamp in my passport from Hungary but that was a trip I made a month or so before they joined the EU.

Generally, yes, although you may find many will simply ignore your request.

Note, however, that when travelling within Schengen Treaty member states (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_treaty) then you will most likely not pass through immigration controls, and will not have the opportunity to ask for a stamp.

Some locations (San Marino, Liechtenstein) actually make money by charging tourists for their passport stamps on request!

They cannot deny the stamp. Just be careful if you fill the pages you need to get a new passport, and at £643 for a new one it ain't cheap, Lord no!!

If you ask for it, yes.

They may look at you more than casually for the trouble caused, though.

Some people need the stamp to prove when they left one country or entered it, otherwise it is barely done.

Yes, but don't expect them to be nice and friendly
