I'm not sure what they eat, but a lot of times when babies weigh so much at birth is because some pregnant moms are diabetic. I'm not saying this is the only reason. This is why pregnant women are tested for gestational diabetes. If it's caught early, it should be monitered so that the baby won't be so heavy and that the mom's won't have a harder time giving birth than necessary.
Other women take "eating for two" very seriously, which they shouldn't. They end up paying later.

10 pounds isn't even overly large...I've known people who were 14 pounds plus at delivery.
It has very little to do with what the mother eats, and everything to do with the baby's DNA. Also, a baby being 10 pounds at birth doesn't mean the baby is fat. Some people are big, some people are not, and it often begins at birth!

The mother eats the same as any other mother the baby is the one who is growing. The baby may grow faster than normal. My brother was almost a 10 lb baby and now he stands 6'3 and is almost 300 lbs

My hubby weighed 11 lbs and something. His mom went over an extra 4 weeks. Course this was back in the day and that's why he weighed so much.

I think the mother just eats normally. My sister was close to 10 pounds when she was born adn my mother just ate normally--she didn't gain excessive weight or anything--I think it is probably genetic..However, in some cases, the mother might be diabetic--that is, she might have developed diabetes while she was pregnant...This sometimes leads to excessive weight gain in the mother and/or the baby.

It doesn't work off how much you eat, it depends on genetics. Nobody can predict 100% birth weight in babies. They can give estimates and using family history to give a rough idea but it's not an exact science

I had 3 babies, they were all large. I didn't change my eating habits when I was pregnant with them either. My children are still big to this day. NOT overweight, but normal and healthy. They are on the tall side, but they were normal height when they were born. But oh man, It felt like I was giving birth to toddlers!

My uncle was born 10 pounds and he is still heavy to this day. My grandma's 6 other kids were like 6-7 pounds and were skinny growing up. She ate healthy food, just as she did with the other kids. I guess it's all in the genes.
