In my opinion, it's because in some unconcious spot in their soul they feel that by sticking up for him, or any other celebrity for that matter, that they may be one step closer to impressing them....
BUT BEFORE ANYONE FREAKS OUT ON ME FOR WHAT I SAID.....
THAT IS MY OPINION!!!! And through my civil liberties, I am entitled to it.
Personally, I would like to see more Celebs do something worthwhile with their fame and notority other than get drunk, arrested, or rewarded through press for nothing more than personal relationships.

I am not everyone! I applaud Leonardo's stance on global warming. He is iconic and will spread the word on what needs to be done to stop this dreadful condition that threatens the existence of the world as we know it.
If someone gets hot and bothered about it, it's because he/she needs to be educated.
