If both parents are in agreement the cheapest way is to draw up a document outlining the new terms of the custody agreement and get the signature of both parties witness by a notary public. Otherwise you'll need to involve lawyers which they will probably do the same thing for a fee. Keep in mind after his son has lived with you for six months, in many states you could be eligible to collect child support from the mom by filing a petition with the district attorney.

I would go to child welfare and tell them that the child is moving with you. and that your son will not be living with his mom. I would go there in person, not write a letter. or talk to your lawyer and see what can be done, good luck.
