The fact that you ask the question does not automatically mean it has an answer you would accept. The meaning of life is in the question itself. The meaning of life is that life has meaning. Life is.

80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

its a test and most people fail... the cruelest force in nature is justice and you live until you receive a consequence from every action in your life. all that forgiveness is bullshit made up by people who are afraid b/c all their lives they have done **** and they want the easy way out...
(read faust, i think its so unfair how he ends up in heaven after all the **** he does, i mean if you ruin so many peoples lives, ultimately driving them to their deaths, how can god be like well that person although he/she commited crimes prayed for forgiveness and now everything he's done is forgiven and forgotten...how does that make sense?)
thats one way to look at it
another:
live like theres no tomorrow, live with no regrets and die with no regrets. love everyone/everything and forgive and forget. forgiveness is everywhere, you just know where and how to look for it. basically, live a virtuous life and be happy.
(if people aren't forgiven, and you've already done bad things in your past, whats the point of asking for forgiveness if youre not getting it? this opinion makes more sense than the first, right or no?)
another question is why am i me? why wasn't i born someone else/ if i die or the universe blows up or something, will i still exist? will my soul live on? will i every become nothing? how was god created? are souls constantly being created? what happens to an animals soul? are they equal to people? if the population on earth is continually increasing, does that mean more and more souls are created by the moment? and where do they all go? is heaven overpopulated? aresouls destroyed? reincarnation, perhaps? are there other worlds? are we god's experiment?

"Ashes of Life"
by: Edna St. Vincent Millay
Love has gone and left me and the days are all alike;
Eat I must, and sleep I will, -- and would that night were here!
But ah! -- to lie awake and hear the slow hours strike!
Would that it were day again! -- with twilight near!
Love has gone and left me and I don't know what to do;
This or that or what you will is all the same to me;
But all the things that I begin I leave before I'm through, --
There's little use in anything as far as I can see.
Love has gone and left me, -- and the neighbors knock and borrow,
And life goes on forever like the gnawing of a mouse, --
And to-morrow and to-morrow and to-morrow and to-morrow
There's this little street and this little house.
Forget about why does it exist be thankful that we are among the living..:)

Well, I could go religious on you, but I'm certain that you are not looking for a religious answer, so what I will say is we are here to destroy the earth, break everything down into a code, so that maybe it might make sense to our simple human brains, and let the aliens take over from there.

The meaning is the pursuit of the answer to your question. That is the ultimate meaning. But there are also the things we should do as humans. Reproduce and raise children, our own or otherwise. Be good to people.

Life is a highly complex system of definable physical and chemical structures capable of utilizing environmental matter and energy in order to perform basic life processes such as growth and reproduction. Therefore, there is no "meaning." It only is.

To me the meaning of life is to do good while we are here. I think I am here to help others, (I am an EMT). As for why life exists? I have no clue. Maybe we are here as an experiment and when it's over, we will be evaluated and shipped to where we will have to start over.

That is the ultimate question in which you will probably go through your whole life and ponder. Personally, I think we are here to become humble. To learn about our own hearts and the meaning of love. (not sexual love) To be compassionate and thoughtful. Respectful to all things big and small. There, you have my two cents.

I believe we all have a purpose in life. Each one maybe differnt then the next. We are all given the freedom to do things and what we do with our knowledge to make it better or can make it worse.
Life can and is what you make of it. Only each individual can determine what there life is gonna be by the decisions they make. Happy Holidays!
