I keep seeing questions from women/girls who are: scared of internal examinations, not sure what's involved, thinking they're painful, etc.
???
I'm amazed; I mean, has nobody ever been to a doctor before? Why would somebody anticipate pain? Is the cervix a mystery? Has nobody ever seen a speculum?
Then -- I have no idea if there's something I'm missing, like one's cervix sometimes becoming exceptionally tender during certain stages of pregnancy and thus easily hurt by a nudge (but -- how are these people having sex, then?), or... Is something highly unusual involved in certain internal exams for pregnant women?
Pray explain...?

Re. "Yearly gyn visits are important for a number of reasons..." Yeah, yeah -- I know. So why is this section filled with people who've never had them?

My sister is one of those girls/women afraid of having a pelvic exam. She is anticipating pain.
But I know why. Both my mother and I have (depending on how you look at it) small, or inelastic, vaginas. It is painful for my mother even when the doctor uses the smallest size speculum available (which is meant for children). I can barely accomodate the second-smallest size.
So. They CAN be painful, and even when they're not for a given woman, they are extremely embarrassing. A stranger walks into a room, where you are naked from the waist down. He/she may or may not reassure you before beginning the exam. Your feet are placed in stirrups and a bright light is shone on an area that you have been told is PRIVATE from the time you were a year old. He/she grabs a COLD METAL INSTRUMENT and shoves it into you. You can request that it be warmed by running it under hot water, but most women forget that while under stress, and so the cold is a shock. It seems to last forever. And if your vagina does not expand as expected, you kind of have to 'just deal with it'. It is EMOTIONALLY painful for many women.
After my first physically painful experience, it became an emotional terror. I am afraid of speculums of any size. I can understand how a woman who has never had a pelvic exam before would have the same fear.

OK, first of all it has not anything in any respect to do with a womans boyfriend. A lady makes a decision for herself whether or not she is cozy with a male surgeon inspecting her. I do not get all wierd if a feminine surgeon examines my bfs penis or testicles, so there is not any motive for him to suppose disrespected if I opt for to have a vaginal examination performed via a male surgeon. I might be unsatisfied having a strip seek performed via both a male or feminine police officer. Such matters must be left best to scientific proffessionals. When you're in affliction and in poor health, you're comfortable to have any person evaluate you so long as they've the qualifications and capacity to aid you. It does now not hassle me within the slightest to have intimate examinations implemented via a male surgeon. I have had unhealthy gynaecological issues for that reason have had many such examinations. What issues me on the time is how expert/delicate they're and the way comfortable they make me suppose. My worst ever interior examination used to be implemented via a lady. I felt entirely degraded via her angle and loss of professionalism. If male medical professionals suppose something irrelevant then does it quite subject so long as they're capable to do their activity and aid you? I doubt if many get grew to become on via a speculum up the vagina, however howdy, I'm certain a few do. They are human. You look to have a few severe disorders surrounding this. I might have an interest to grasp why you suppose so strongly in this hindrance. There is not anything unsuitable with a male inspecting a lady if he has the understand how to aid her, and he or she is cozy with it. It is far distinctive to the feelings and problem whilst your lover touches you down there. There is not anything to be embarrassed about within the human frame.

I'm not sure being im a male, but an exam for a male is just as embarassing for males as is females. I know for a prostate exam the doctor sticks his finger in the man's rectum and feels for anything unusual about the prostate. Im not so sure about female exams but i do know that some exams require a swab or sample ofthe cervix. Hope my answer helped

I think most of the girls who ask those questions are teenagers. So, no they do not know what a speculum is because they "have never had a pelvic exam before". Thus, the reason they are asking.

The closer you are to deivering the more it will hurt to have someone poking around down there and you can have sex without banging the snot out of your cervix. Oh and as for the speculum, that is in no way comfortable, have you ever been having contractions for 3 days then somenone stics one of those in you and spreads you like a cooked lobster?????? PAIN PAIN PAIN>>........

it would really only be painful if there was any kind of infection (like a yeast infection, which is very common for pregnant women or a urinary tract infection, which is also very common). it's uncomfortable and weird and not usually the highlight of my day, but it's expected that when you go to the doctor and you're pregnant you're going to get an internal exam. it's a part of life. and if that's painful, you really have NO idea what you're in for!! what do you think labor is going to be like?!

A pelvic exam is a procedure where they take a swab of your cervic and check for different things like infections and such. Every time I've had it done it just feels like theres a lot of pressure, doesn't hurt at all!

well when i got my first one i was scared too. mostly cause there was this person looking and touching me. it did hurt. i was a virgin then, but now that im pregnant i had to do it, and i still feel the same way. it doesnt hurt anymore, but maybe these girls, just feel uncomfortable with strangers doing it, i know i do. sure sex is easy, when you're comfortable...but honestly you dont want anyone poking you with things down there...um yeah you get what im saying lol.
love jen.

i think that doctors preach pelvic exams because they know that women will do them, they are considered to be a "cash cow" if you will. very easy to do, and a lot of money involved. and they can do a lot of them in one day. i dont understand either why people go to the doctor when they are not sick, and also why would a 13 year old girl need one? in fact , i believe that getting these exams early has a paradox effect on young girls and causes them to be more apt to be promiscuous, modesty and innocence is lost, and lends itself to make it easier to undress in front of a man, we all know that cervical cancer is linked to being sexually active, therefore if these exams cause girls to have sex earlier then the ones that dont recieve them, i think we have a big problem.

Not sure if your are asking actual questions or question why people are asking. Either way, pelvic exams arent painful but they are uncomfortable.
