how is the earthworm's digestive system adpated for extracting reletivly small amounts of food from large amounts of ingested soil?

Hi. Well, they just snack as the move along. The ones whose paths do not contain food, starve.

Its digestive system is so very uncomplicated with respect to its body. dissect one and you will see that the ectoderm is only a small distance away from the digestive tract...as oppossed to ours...(lotsa fat and meat in between) so since they don't have much to provide food for, the ratio of nutrients to body mass is extremely high... in a nutshell, they don't need much.
