I recently went there and saw all of the toy shelves stocked to the brim which is highly unusual around Christmas. Do you think this means alot of kids will be doing without?

I remember when Wal-mart first opened and the story of how Sam W. was a Sgt. in the military and recognized the need for an affordable way to shop and thus created this empire. While I enjoy a bargain as much as the next; it bothers me that so many are adversely affected by this decision. Since then our family has boycotted Wal-mart and every dept. it has to offer. I only wish it would make an impact but it won't but, I have the satisfaction of knowing they aren't getting a single penny from my pockets any longer and are raising my children to do the same.

It is yet again big business sticking it to the people who can afford it least, the middle class and poor. Yes, I have already spoken with parents who said they don't know what they will do, they can't afford to pay for everything all at once, so by the time they can, all the selection will be gone and their kids won't get what they wanted, if they get it at all.

This is going to make it difficult for a LOT of single parents at Christmastime and other times of the year -- because they have the most difficulty making ends meet -- especially when there is a deadbeat parent involved.

Other than saving (which I did, by the way -- I would sacrifice every day -- just to make sure that this Single Parent's Children would have things that they need and enjoy) ... and use of credit cards (a financial disaster in the making for many, many single parents and families) ... there are not many other choices out there now.

This, unfortunately, is caused by those who ABUSED the lay-away privilege -- put stuff on layaway and never returned to pay for the items, letting them languish in what is terminal hold -- thus, they had to allocate space for these layaways, account for the payments made or not made, and then have the folks there work around and move the ones that were not paid all the time .. until the expiration of the layaway (at increasing costs to them).

I think layaway can be beneficial to those people who do not have the entire money to pay for something up front. It can come in handy to make payments and then buy it completely. I have seen a woman who was a single mom with 3 young children putting their toys and such on layaway. She told me that after a couple payments she can purchase them. I felt sad for her but I knew that this option Wal-Mart offered was a good one for those circumstances.

I live in Canada and the Wal-Mart in my city still offers it thank goodness.

so I guess my answer would be I think it would be terrible to get rid of the lay away when there are good people who need to use that in order to give their children the Christmas they deserve!

Merry Christmas!!

Well I work at a retail store similar to Wal-mart and we got rid of layaway because many people put it on layaway then never come back for it, so they lose money and many other potential buyers while it just sits in a back room for months.

However I do agree that it sucks for those that actually use it properly, but many times the good things get ruined by the bad people. And I think they should have waited until after X-mas to start the new policy...

I used to work for Wal-Mart and parents do use layaway for 2 reasons, one to take longer to pay for the toys but also to help hide them from the little ones until closer to x-mas. I think that what is HOPEFULLY going to happen is that parents are statching money back and about 2 or 3 days before x-mas eve will swarm the Wal-Marts of america and go toy shopping crazy, I just wonder how they are going to hide what the toy is because at this time of the year, layaway would use loads of brown wrapping paper to help hide what kind of toy the parents got.

All I can really say is this:
GOOD LUCK PARENTS OF AMERICA WHO BUY THEIR CHILDRENS' X-MAS TOYS AT WAL-MART AND MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Layaway was good, alot of peple don't get a bonus anymore. We need it for christmas time. I guess it costs wal-mart too much money to maintain. I don't know may other stores that do layaway. I think the parents of these kids will have to say the money they would put towards layaway or get a credit card.

I'm very upset. I would be happy to pay a $5 or even $10 fee to use layaway because we used it all year long...not just at Christmas. Any big purchase for us went on layaway. Perhaps Walmart will look at doing a fee structure.

i presumed this replaced into very humorous. Had no longer heard it in the previous. It jogged my memory of yet another comedian tale that's an oldie, yet a goodie. right here that's: Blonde Jockey A blonde comes to a decision to attempt horseback driving, even even with the undeniable fact that she has had no classes or past journey. She mounts the pony, unassisted, and the pony in the present day springs into action. It gallops alongside at a gentle and rhythmic %., however the blonde starts to slip from the saddle. In terror, she grabs for the pony's mane, yet won't be able to look to get an employer grip. She tries to throw her hands around the pony's neck, yet she slides down the area of the pony besides. the pony gallops alongside, probably impervious to its slipping rider. finally, giving up her frail grip, the blonde tries to bounce faraway from the pony and throw herself to safety. regrettably, her foot has grow to be entangled interior the stirrup, she is now on the mercy of the pony's pounding hooves as her head is struck against the floor many times. As her head is battered against the floor, she is mere moments faraway from unconsciousness while to her great fortune, Stan, the Wal-Mart greeter, sees her and unplugs the pony.

Personally i have never put anything on layaway at Walmart, But my daughter has and she has 2 little boys, She dosent like it that theres no more layaway.I agree with her, because in her case, she puts alot of stuff on layaway, winter clothes, summer clothes, christmas presents, because she can't afford to spend 100-200 dollars all at once..Times are tough for alot of families who can't afford to spend alot of money at once..

I think WalMart just made a HUGE mistake,Lots and LOTS of Parents use the layaway to get gifts for their Children for Christmas. I think they are totally wrong and told the Store Manager I Thought so too. He said it came from "Corporate" and they have "nothing to do with it",then walked away!!!!! How rude......good thing I was finished shopping huh? LOL
