what is she trying to hide by acting like that and seducing all the men in the room?

It was your typical gratuitious shot for shock value! It didn't add to the story at all and made the character that Sharon Stone was portraying as a low-class skank (not that the character already wasn't).
It was an over-hyped marketing ploy by the movie-makers to draw audiences to the theatre, too, cause the more people attend the theatre, the more $$$ in their pockets...

I've never seen it... and of course when they run "Basic Instinct" on TV it's edited.
I guess I should rent it and see...
