Movie stars like to preach from their pulpits about the environment (definitely some of which I agree with) but, they might create more pollution than 10 "normal" americans with their yachts, multiple huge homes with heated pools, huge 500 horsepower bentleys and helicopters. Shouldn't they get on board and help the environment themselves before preaching to us????

Many celebrity environmentalists, like DiCaprio, drive environmentally friendly cars like Priuses rather than ride in limos or Ferraris. And yes, a lot of these celebrities are doing their part for the environment, donating money, attending conferences, etc.
So I'd be careful in assuming that all celebrities are like Paris Hilton.

I agree... love the hypocrisy of some of these celebrities
There is ONE 'celebrity' I will applaud though and that is Ed Begley Jr. He lives in a modest home that is completely solar-powered, recycles, and drives alternative-fueled vehicles or rides his bicycle.

Why should we listen to them in any case, no matter how they live? Are they educated in the environmental sciences? What makes their opinion any better than that of the guy begging money on the street corner?

I totally agree. And even if one of us had a legit and useable answer on this site to their question, I somehow doubt they will really listen. It's nice to know they care, but why don't they use the resources available to them (that we could only dream of) to find a solution.
