LOVE IT!!!!! Its my brothers middle name and he is a very inspiring person in my life also. I would go with it to show your brother you love him and care for him and you would like your son to carry on his name. If I were in your shoes I would go for it!!!!
I was planning on using Benjamin if I have a son when I am older as a middle name.
It will be a perfect name. he can be called Ben, Benji or Benny etc...
So its entirely your choice and you can decide. Also you can ask your brother if he had any problems growing up with the name Benjamin and that would sort your problems out if you had some.

I think it would be really special to name your child after someone who has meant so much to you. Benjamin has never been a favorite of mine because of a kid who picked on me all the time named Ben, but there is nothing wrong with the name. The meaning of the name has a connotation of favoritism which would make it even more meaningful for you since you want to use it in honor of your brother.

My husband and I named our four-month-old Benjamin. I personally love the name. It's adorable for a baby, and makes for some cute nicknames. So far he's picked up "Bungee" (from his grandpa), Benjyman, Bugaboo, and "Benny-boo-boo"(lol--from his aunt--but no one else calls him that).
I don't let anyone call him Benji or Benny (other than the example above) because I've known people who were not nice people with those names and so I have a negative connotation with them. But Benjamin (or Ben) to me is a manly and strong name, which works well for a baby or a grown man.

Love it! And I love that you want to honor your brother that way!
You could also consider using Benjamin as the middle name, or calling your baby Ben or Benny (if your brother isn't) so that you can tell them apart.

As long as it goes with your last name. I used to work with a woman who loved the name Benjamin, but she married a guy with the last name Dover. Ben Dover. Needless to say, she didn't use that name.
