Well when i finally get hold of a quad core processor to go into a machine with 2 nVidia 8800 GTX's and 4 hard drives i've been advised to go for a 1kW power supply which will cost £330 so depending how extreme your planning to make your gaming machine i'd say anything up to 1kW, just make sure you've got very deep pockets :)

Depends what the rest of the system is, specifically the CPU and the Video card. My Video card sucks more juice than most people's entire PC, but you may not be the same. A "proper" PSU could be anywhere from 500w to 1.5kw depending what you're sticking inside. Decent gaming rig with a mean vid card or SLi and modern CPU I'd go with 600+w again, it depends on the whole package.

Get at least a Energy Star Compliant 630W PSU.

the best advice I can give is to not go on wattage alone. A good general rule of thumb is to buy a heavy one. This is really crude I know, but heavier power supplies are always the better ones.

Here is a link to a forum where they really know their stuff. This set of write ups and links is awesome. I highly recomend you go straight to the best of the best link at the top.

Would get at least 600w maybe 1000w if you plan on having lots of dvd/hard drives and 2 graphics cards.
Also the type of cpu if you are going dual core then will need more power.
Try to get one with independant 12v lines as these are more stable.

I would recommend a psu with at least 600 watts or very close.

if some cheap *** one comes with your case then rip it out they are useess, my new graphics card burned through one in a day, luckily the rest of the pc was ok.

min 600watt and a decent make one too, no useless £12.99 one, expect to pay min £60 for something worth buying.

something like a tagan, antec or akasa

I ask a guy in PC World the same thing, Pentium D, GeForce 7800
and he reckons NOTHING below 450w
So I slipped a 500w in, and it works OK
So do what I did, tell them what you have, and what do they recommend.
