I had a membership for msn music, and my only fee was a dollar per song. Now they closed msn because of lack of popularity, and i don't trust anywhere else. I have itunes, but not an ipod, and itunes cannot be placed on windows media player to be put on my mp3 player. Also, i cannot justify getting my music for free, so don't suggest it.

good answers much appreciated

at emusic.com you can get 40 downloads for $10 a month (25 cents a song!) but there's mostly indie stuff on there. Buy.com has all the new, mainstream stuff for 79-99 cents a song. I used to use that a lot, but on some of the songs there's the encryptions that only allow you to put it on 5 computers and 7 cds, etc. Emusic has none of that.

Where the fee is just for the music? Lol, no where, not even MSN, has the cost of the song as just the song, usually even 99c is being cut up to the vendor, artist, etc.

I'd recommend Napster, its legal now, and I've never had problems with them. They also have this little function where rather than download to your harddrive, the music can be sent straight to your MP3 player, enhancing your nirvana.

Napster - monthly fee is very low (about $20 for Napster-to-go) and you can download as many tracks as you like to your PC and MP3 player, and they have a huge library of songs. The price is lower if you don't put them onto an MP3 player (standard Napster subscription). The music quality is also better than MSN (192kbps WMA rather than 128kbps WMA)
