Yes. He abdicated, but I'm sure there would've been more "oh no, don't do that" if he weren't a Nazi sympathizer. In other words, his choice, but nobody stopped him.

He abdicated the throne in 1936, before Hitler began making serious noises in Germany. His relationship with Hitler was tenuous at best, never really amounting to anything beyond a few meetings in the late 1930s. The Duke & Dutchess were living in France when the Nazis invaded, and were eventually sent to govern the Bahamas for the duration of the war.

He abdicated for love, because Wallace Simpson was divorced and it was made clear she would not be accepted as royalty. I don't know where you got the idea from that the duke sided with the Nazis
